At Feed Your Street, we are passionate about one thing, creating profitable small farms! We've developed a turn key, indoor/outdoor, low cost, space efficient, and profitable system for growing vegetables. Combine that with a deep understanding of USDA, FSA, and NRCS funding mechanisms and you can make your small farm a reality.
To help people build profitable small farms.
Hello, my name is Tim Rowse and I'm the founder of Feed Your Street. That's me in the picture above.
A few years back I looked at the containerized indoor growing industry and asked "why isn't this in every town in America?"
The answer was simple. Typical containerized hydroponic systems are too expensive and the numbers don't pencil out. A recent price quote came out at $150,000 before the single container even left the factory. The financials simply don't work and institutional capital has no interest in the low single digit returns containerized hydroponic technology provided. Therefore, the small modular growing model hasn't been deeply backed by capital and it hasn't filled it's potential.
Understanding this set me on a mission to build a low cost growing system owned and operated by the grower that could be married to greenhouse growing. This creates a highly profitable small farm. You see, labor is what makes or breaks indoor growing (and outdoor for that matter), and if you are the labor, the numbers work very well!
In truth, what we farm is the soil. If the soil and the inputs are in balance the plants will take care of themselves. We pay deep attention to the soil biome and keeping the relationship between the plants, the microbiome of the soil, and soil nutrients in balance. We are long stewards of regenerative agriculture and huge fans of the work of Dr. Elaine Ingham. We work closely with Catalyst Bioamendments to manage soil health.
We have also partnered with Upterra for cutting edge water technology. Upterra structures water at the molecular level and encodes the water with a frequency to help with pests and other issues. It’s amazing technology that decreases the need for inputs and water usage.
We offer expert guidance on how to finance a land and/or equipment purchase, how to build the farm infrastructure, how to best utilize our small farming system, how to minimize capital expense, and best of all, how to access financing tools to make your small farm a reality. It's easier than you might think.
Feed Your Street understands how the agricultural financing system works. There are an array of Federal and State agricultural financing programs that make farm ownership more realistic for you than you know even if you have a background story or less than stellar credit. If you are a beginning farmer (just starting or farmed less than 10 years) you have an even bigger advantage to accessing these financing tools. Get in touch with us to find out how you might own your own small farm.
Our financial model relies on direct to customer sales. Trying to run a small farm on wholesale margins is very difficult. We will teach you every proven marketing and sales tactic we have in our quiver to help you create healthy margins, a healthy farm, and a healthy family that is economically independent. We aren't anywhere close to high pressure sales people. Shoot us an email to set up a call and we will simply explain what we are all about.
To give you a sneak peek, consider 120 people coming to your farm once a week to pick up a $25 share of veggies. That's $144,000 gross revenue and about $110,000 net over 48 weeks (cuz you need some time off).
We will take you through every financial component of our system, Just reach out!
We support our network of owner operators through every step of the farm building and management process including ongoing bi-weekly meetings to address technical, marketing, sales, or any other relevant issue.
Our number one priority is to help you succeed creating a sense of wealth for you and your family that goes way beyond dollars! A family that grows together if you will!
The simplest way to describe regenerative agriculture is the utilization of natural methods to give more to the farmed environment than you take. This is very generally accomplished through creating a healthy soil biome, putting carbon back into the soil thereby sequestering potential CO2 emissions, and utilizing natural methods, cover crops and beneficial insects as an example, to increase yields and decrease or eliminate chemical inputs.
The term Regenerative Economics is less known. By our definition, Regenerative Economics mean that everyone responsible for the growth of a regenerative system shares in the success. What does this mean to you? It means once you are up and running with your own small farm you have the opportunity to introduce other folks to our farming system and share in the revenue generated. This creates a huge opportunity for supplemental income over and above your farm activities while still doing something you love! For details, contact us.
Don't you just hate those websites that tell you an amazing story about how you can change your life and then suggest a super unreasonable fee? Well, we think that's BS and we think you are smarter than that. So, in an effort to be transparent here's how we make ends meet.
1. We charge a consulting fee for all our plans and support that is dependent on the scope of work needed. Often these fees can be paid by, or offset with, Technical Assistance Funding from your local extension office. We will show you how to access these funds.
2. If we build your indoor grows for you we add margin to the cost to support ourselves.
3. We host on site classes for a fee to educate folks about our model. If you end up pursuing our model that class fee comes off your consulting fee.
4. We occasionally purchase land to develop small farms. If you buy one of these farms we add margin to your purchase price of the land.
We would love to hear from you. What are you curious about? Email us and we will get back to you soon.
